The first witness, 2nd officer Alfon Hubert Tidemann, produced the attached report dated the 13th January 1942. The witness had his doubts as to wether the vessel was torpedoed by a Japanese ship. He gives as reason for this that the "Hydra 2" was lying so close to the shore (max. about 2 miles) that a Japanese warship could hardly have been on the inside and the torpedo came from the shore side. The crew of the "Colombia" had seen many small American torpedo boats which were constantly cruising between the islands and it is possible that one of these by mistake has torpedoed the "Hydra 2".

The 2nd witness, 2nd engineer Gunnar Sanne, referred to the report as quite correct. The witness has also his doubts as to whether the "Hydra 2 " was torpedoed by the Japanese. The witness was on the bridge together with the 2nd officer when the vessel was torpedoed.

The 3rd witness, 3rd engineer Georg Emil Hansen, refferd to the report as quite correct.
