"At the age of two HANSEN was adopted by a road labourer and farmer called Ernst Mikal ISAKSEN aged 60 and his wife Hilda SØRENSEN, who died in 1939. [...]

Hansen attended the Folk School in Sandstrand where his step-parents lived from 1922 to 1930. He then spent a year at home until 1931, and during the winter went to the Lofoten Islands during the fishing season with Albert SIMONSEN, and in the summer he worked at home as a farm labourer. [...]

During the winter 1932 he signed on the motor cutter "ODMUND" belonging to Ingvard DANIELSEN of Sørvik, in Trondenes. Each autumn he went to the fishing grounds with this man, and during February and March he went to the Lofoten Islands for cod fishing. [...]

He also used to go to Finmark in the spring, and continued with this occupation until the 15.12.39 spending only a few months at home during each summer. [...]

HANSEN was then called for military service to the Saetermoen I.R.16 and was occupied in this way until late March 1940 when he returned home and remained there until the invasion. [...]

On the 11th April a friend of his telephoned the Chief of Police in Harstad enquiring as to what they should do. On the advice of this man they got one, Øivind GJØRVIK who owned a small fishing vessel, to bring the to Sjøveian, and from there they proceeded by car to Saetermoen where they received equipment and remained with the battalion until demobilisation. HANSEN returned home and was employed on farm work during the summer and fished in the winter until the summer 1941, when a stone factory was erected near the farm on which he was working. He therefore commenced his new work and stayed here until the autumn 1942, when he learnt that production was being sent to the Germans, and so he decided to leave. [...]

HANSEN decided to leave home together with Asbjørn HANSEN. They travelled through Saetermoen, Bardudal, Østerdalen and crosed the border to Sweden on the 26.9.42. near Tornetræ. Here they proceeded down the Swedish military patrol offices near Polmovika and were subsequently sent to Kjeseter and on to Øreryd. They remained two days in each of these places, and HANSEN was sent to do forest work at Kolartorp in Kopparberg where he remained until the 20.12.42. [...]

He was then transferred to another forest camp in Gnarp where he stayed until the 28.1.43. when he was called to Stockholm for despatch to this country by air."
