"He fought all through Campaign [in Norway] and was finally demobilised a few days before the capitulation. He then returned home and started his own work on the railway. Together with Engineer [...], believed to be known in England, BRANDLI had been spreading anti-Nazi propaganda in the neighburhood, by various means, e.g. the setting up of placards etc. The two of them had also soundly thrashed one or two of the local hot-headed Nazis, and they were told by a friend on the 1.4.41 that they had better get away as the Gestapo were coming from Trondheim to arrest them. This friend had apparently been in the local cafe when the head policeman, Emil KARLSEN, and N.S. man, had been discussing the coming arrival of the Gestapo and several other Nazis.

The two of them therefore proceeded to Trondhem, and then by rail to Reitan, before Skiid to Kjølegruber, from there to Nedal (Nedal is about 15 miles from the border), and then they crossed [...] Gamla Sylstugan, Sweden. [...] He returned to Øreryd in August where he remained as Troop Chief and Labour Chief until 18.1.42 when he was recalled to Stockholm. He remained in Stockholm until 19.4.42 when he left for England".
