Var 2.styrmann på M/S BORGESTAD som under angrep på en konvoi tok kampen opp mot tysk panserkrysser ADMIRAL HIPPER, for å redde de øvrige skip. Etter en hard strid ble M/S BORGESTAD skutt i senk, og han omkom den 12.februar 1941.
