Mons Lie var gift, men det er ikke oppgitt noe navn på hans kone.
Lie var om bord på D/S Botne da skipet kolliderte med britiske "British Hope" near Lundy Island 03.09.1941. Botne sank, men alle om bord ble reddet. Lie var i ca 1 år etter forliset stasjonert i New York som reservefører.
