D/S Haftor ble kapret av japansk krigsskip i havet utenfor Singora 7. desember 1941 under reise fra Singapore til Bangkok med stykkgods. Besetningen ble beordret i livbåtene. To av båtene ble senere tatt av japanerne, og besetningen, kaptein, tre offiserer og 36 kinesere, satt i japansk fangenskap. Kom til Bangkok 27.10 1942 internert i fangeleir i Tai Ping. Videre til Changi Camp, Japan 01.07.1943.
Kom til Liverpool 08.10.1945. Videre til Norge via Newcastle med M/S "Bretagne" 27.10.1945.
