Etter torpedering av M/S MOLDANGER 27. juni 1942, var Moldekleiv en av 9 overlevende som drev rundt på havet på en flåte i 47 døgn. Flåten ble oppdaget av M/S WASHINGTON EXPRESS, som reddet mannskapet.
Hjeltnes, Guri., Handelsflåten i krig 1939-1945: Sjømann, s. 271:
"Motormann Einar Moldeklev, bare 22 år gammel, opplevde faktisk med senkingen av Moldanger sin tredje torpedering. Denne gangen fikk han vrakgods inn i ribbeina og var konstant plaget av sting i brystkassen. Tørsten var det som plaget Moldeklev Mest denne tredje gangen, forteller han."
Gjestland, Trygve., "Ombord på «Washington Express» august 1942", s. 68-69:
"Dette var hans tredje torpedering. Den første var i januar 1940 da han var i livbåt i 36 timer. Den andre var i mars 1941 da han ble plukket opp etter 30 timer".
