Dro til sjøs 15 år gammel og var med på torpedering under forrige verdenskrig. Etter krigsutbruddet i Norge 1940 seilte han i alliert fart som styrmann på D/S SKRIM, og omkom den 6. desember 1940 da skipet forsvant fra en konvoi, på reise fra Oban til Sidney, Nova Scotia, Canada.
