Var i Norge under krigen. Meldte seg til marinen 27.7.1945, og ble utdannet til skytter i Dumbarton, Skottland.
På grunn av fredsslutningen med Japan høsten 1945, ble det ikke brukt for skyttere om bord på norske handelsskip bestemt for Østen.
Han ble dimittert 1.4.1946.
