Aahjem reiste fra Hong Kong til Shanghai for å gå om bord i et annet skip, men samtidig kom japanske styrker dit og Aahjem ble arrestert og internert fra 08.12.1941. Var i japansk fangenskap til krigen var over. Kom hjem 19.08.1946 syk og utmattet, veide da 38 kg, døde 01.09.1946.
