Var den 9.april 1940 ombord på D/S LYSEFJORD. Senere var han ombord på et Hondurasskip s D/S NICHOLAS CUENO og ble torpedert 9.7.1942. Etter dette meldte han seg til marinen 1.august 1942, og ble utdannet til kanoner i Lunenburg, Canada.
Etter endt utdannelse gikk han ombord i D/S KRISTIANIAFJORD av Oslo. Rederiet Den norske Amerikalinje. påm. 22.9.1942 og var ombord til krigens slutt.
Ble dimittert i Dumbarton, Skottland den 19.november 1945 og fortsatte som sivil sjømann på samme skip.
