Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i KNM HEIMDAL Port Edgar, Scotland.
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
D/S HELLEN fra 14.2.1941 til skipet krigsforliste den 21.desember 1941 i Atlanterhavet. Hele beseningen ble reddet.
Han var videre ombord i:
D/S LOKE fra 27.1.1942 til 8.9.1943.
M/S AROSA fra 25.9.1942 til 10.05.1943.
M/S OLAF BERGH fra 16.8.1943 til 15.5.1944.
M/S FERNWOOD fra 18.8.1944 til 7.9.1945.
For sin innsats for Norge under den annen verdenskrig ble han ble tildelt Krigsmedaljen, Deltakermedaljen og Haakon den VII`s 70 års medalje.
