Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway, Lunenburg, Canada.
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
D/S SELVIK fra 11.4.1942 til 30.6.1943.
Han var således om bord under det store tyske flyangrep mot Bona i tiden 31.7.1943 til 22.9.1943.
Videre var han om bord i :
M/S TITANIAN fra 31.7.1943 til 22.9.1943.
M/S SØRVARD fra 6.10.1943 til 15.3.1945.
M/T HILDA KNUDSEN fra 13.4.1945 til 19.11.1945.
For sin innsats for Norge under den annen verdenskrig ble han ble tildelt Krigsmedaljen, Deltakermedaljen og Haakon den VII`s 70 års medalje.

Dimittert fra Marinen: 27. november 1945 i Dumbarton, Skottland.
