Rapport for d/s "Haalegg" av Skien, på reise til og opphold i Narvik: "Kanonaden pågår ustanselig og granatene suser omkring skibet [9. april 1940]. I løpet av dagen finner besetningen det umenneskelig å være ombord i skibet, idet havnen er under full krigstilstand. Alle de andre på havnen liggende lasteskib, som ikke ble senket under slaget om morgenen, blir også forlatt av sine mannskaper. Mannskapet søker tilflukt i et nær havnen liggende hus".
