Han var 1. styrmann på D/S INGRID av Oslo, da skipet grunnstøtte på vestkysten av Hebridenen, underveis fra Newcastle til Jamaica den 19. januar 1942. Alle ombord ble reddet.
Endresen meldte seg til marinen og utdannet til inspeksjons- og vepningsoffiser ved Sjøforsvarets Skytteravdeling for Handelsflåten.
Etter endt utdannelse reiste han som passasjer fra England til New York med M/S ELISABETH BAKKE. Gjorde deretter tjeneste som vepningsoffiser på:
