Hurtigrute Prins Olav satte kursen langt til havs for i første omgang å nå Torshavn på Færøyene. 9. juni 1940 ble den angrepet av tyske fly, og to bomber satte skipet i brann. Sank 70-80 n. mil vest av Røst. En mann drept. De overlevende brakt til Scapa Flow av britisk destroyer.
