Registernummer under krigen: London 11673, NY 30838.

Johannes Berge var donkeymann ombord på M/T PRESIDENT HERRENSCHMITDT. Skipet kom til Oran den 24.6.1940, og ble tilbakeholdt av de franske myndigheter. Den 21.6.1941 ble skipet rekvirert av Vichy-regjeringen, og mannskapet tatt i land og sendt til Marseille. Johannes Berge flyktet til Gibraltar den 6.4.1942. Ankomst England den 4.5.1942 som passasjer med britiske D/S TOWARD. (Fangenskaplønn fra 22.7.1941 til 5.6.1942). Fortsatte å seile i handelsflåten til 3.2.1944.
Ansatt ved Arbeidsreserven i Dumfries, Skottland i tiden 2.6.1944 til 30.6.1945.

Gift med (jf. London-kort): Gustine Berge, Riska pr. Stavanger.
