Fra spørreskjema: "Jeg mønstret på M/T "Iselin" 1/9-1939 [...], og allerede dagen etter så vi det første skipsmannskap komme tilland i livbåtene. Det var en gresk lastebåt som var minesprengt ved Falsterbo. Vi gikk på statene og jeg stod der til sept 41. Da mønstret jeg på M/S Berganger og den blev torpedert den 2/6-42, vi gikk alene og fikk ikke varsel så vi mistet 4 mann selv var jeg utsatt da jeg befandt mig oppe i aktertoppen, og torpedoen traff ganske nær aktermasten. Jeg kom så fort ned at jeg husket ikke hvordan det foregikk. Men vi prøvde å få inn ett treff med 4' kanonen, men ubåten dukket så fort ned igjen at vi rakk den ikke, selv om vi fikk ivei 3 eller 4 skudd, men da var den jo allerede nede. Etterpå mønstret jeg på M/T "Montevideo", det var jo på høsten, og så den beryktede vinteren 42-43".
